Doja Cat Apologizes After Backlash Over Alleged Racial Comments

Doja Cat made controversial headlines couple of days ago as #DojaCatIsOverParty was the viral tag on twitter. It all started when videos of her sessions on TinyChat groups surfaced online.

And that wasn’t all, Doja’s alleged old racial tweets was also dug out, and her old song ‘Dindu Nuffin’, accompanying her videos in group chat with racist White people.

Reports online claims the rapper has formed online friendships with people who are reportedly known to be alt-righters, racist, and “incels” which made the cancel culture threatened to end her career.

DJ Akademiks also shared that she’s lost over 100k followers in the course of the trend. The ‘Say So’ hit maker performed the song which recently spent two weeks at No. 1 and remains in the top 5 on the charts, as part of BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend event to make up for her cancelled show in the UK a few weeks ago.

Well, Doja has now issued a response to the controversial videos and old song. She took to her Instagram page to address the alleged racial comments. “I want to address what’s been happening on twitter. I’ve used public chat rooms to socialize since I was a child,” she begins in the post.

“I shouldn’t have been on those chat room sites, but I personally have never been involved in any racist conversation. I’m sorry to everyone I’ve offended. I’m a Black woman, half of my family is Black from South Africa and I’m very proud of where I came from,” she continued.

Doja went ahead to clarify the controversy about her resurfaced song. “As for the old song that’s resurfaced, it was in no way tied to anything outside my own personal experience. It was written in response to people who often used that term to hurt me. I made an attempt to flip its meaning, but recognize that it was a bad decision to use the term in my music,” she explained.

“I understand my influence and impact and I’m taking this all very seriously. I love you all and I’m sorry for upsetting or hurting any of you. That’s not my character and I’m determined to show that to everybody moving forward. Thank you.”
