Oprah Winfrey Shares That Her Father Vernon Winfrey Has Passed Away

Oprah Winfrey reveals that her father, Vernon Winfrey, has passed away. Vernon died on Friday, July 8 at 88 years old.

Oprah shared on her Instagram page that Vernon Winfrey had been ill, however did not share any details about the illness.

Winfrey shared the news on social media in a touching post, which included a video of her father being sung to at a recent Fourth of July celebration her family held.

In the caption, the 68-year-old entrepreneur penned a touching message in honor of her father.

“Less than a week ago we honored my father, Vernon Winfrey, in his own backyard,” Winfrey wrote. “My friend and gospel singer Wintley Phipps saluted him with song. He FELT the love and reveled in it until he could no longer speak.”

She continued, “Yesterday with family surrounding his bedside, I had the sacred honor of witnessing the man responsible for my life, take his last breath. We could feel Peace enter the room at his passing.

That Peace still abides. All is well. Thank you for your prayers and good thoughts.” Our prayers and condolences are with Oprah and other family members.
