Tiffany Cabán Pushes Groundbreaking Bill To Protect Sex Workers

New York Councilwoman Tiffany Caban, a longtime advocate of decriminalizing sex work, has now pushed a groundbreaking bill to protect sex workers.

She introduced legislation that would help past and present prostitutes and other sex workers to easily receive taxpayer-funded assistance through nonprofits and other organizations.

This will also making it illegal for them to be discriminated against by prospective landlords and others.

The bill also applies to strippers or anyone else who flaunts flesh legally to make a living.

“The city has a responsibility to protect the health, safety, and economic well-being of all New Yorkers regardless of what they do for a living, and let’s be clear: sex work is work,” said Cabán, while introducing the bill on Thursday’s Council meeting.

Tiffany is an American attorney, politician, and political organizer who has served as a member of the New York City Council for the 22nd District since the 2021 New York City Council election. She won the Democratic primary for the seat after the incumbent, Democrat Costa Constantinides, retired.

She was a candidate in the 2019 Democratic primary for Queens County’s District Attorney in the State of New York, which she narrowly lost to Queens Borough president Melinda Katz.
