An Indiana Mom Arrested For Riding A Bike With Her Crying 2 Months Old Twins Stashed In Milk Crate

An Indiana mom has been jailed after she was busted riding a bike across town with her crying 2-month-old twins stashed in a milk crate.

Blossum Kirby, 36, was sentenced Monday to a year in prison for neglect of a dependent in the wake of the horrifying saga on an Indianapolis street last June.

Heartbreaking photos taken at the time by witnesses showed Kirby’s babies, who were wearing just their diapers, lying in the crate as the scorching summer heat bore down on them. The infants — a boy and girl — weren’t restrained in any way and the crate was only attached to the front of the bike with a bungee cord, authorities said.

The mom was taken into custody after multiple onlookers called 911 to report Kirby’s dangerous actions, including one who said they had witnessed the mom nearly crash and fall off her bike. One horrified onlooker, Brian Henderson, initially thought Kirby had toys stored in the crate until he saw one of the baby’s arms move.

“You can’t have those babies in there like that, ma’am,” Henderson could be heard telling the mom in a video that was shared on social media at the time.

Suezanne Lynch, who also witnessed the ordeal, said she rushed in to help and called medics to the scene.

“She had told me that prior to me stopping her, she had one baby in the front and one baby in the back,” Lynch told the local outlet. “She couldn’t control the bike that well, so she put both babies in the one milk crate in the front. [She said] that was her way of transporting the babies any time she left.”

Kirby told responding officers that she always carried her babies around in the milk crate because she didn’t have a car — and that she didn’t see a problem with the mode of transport. The babies, who were both taken to a nearby hospital, were treated for sunburns and minor scratches.
