Man Sentenced To Life For Killing UPS Mail Carrier Who Refused To Deliver Marijuana Package

A man was sentenced to life in prison Thursday after being convicted of murdering a mail carrier who, instead of delivering a large package of marijuana to his home, left a note in a mailbox telling him to go south to pick it up. Was told to come to the Carolina Post Office.

Federal prosecutors said 25-year-old Trevor Raekwon Seward was found guilty of murdering a federal employee in the line of duty and the shooting death of 64-year-old Irene Pressley in September 2019 while she was delivering mail in rural Williamsburg County.

After receiving a note in his mailbox expecting a 2-pound (0.9-kilogram) package of marijuana from California, Seward confronted Pressley a few minutes later demanding his package. According to court documents, the US Postal Service mail carrier refused.

Prosecutors said Seward obtained a semi-automatic rifle and waited for Pressley to appear on a street in Andrews and fired about 20 times into the back of his mail truck.

Pressley was hit by several bullets. Prosecutors said Seward then drove the mail truck into a ditch on an access road to a hunting club, tried to find his marijuana and other valuables, and then dumped Pressley’s body in his truck.

According to court records, a marijuana package was later found on the street where Presley was killed. In court, Presley’s sister blamed Seward for the death of their 97-year-old father.

“She just gave up because you took her daughter’s life,” Elisha Hubbard said during Thursday’s sentencing hearing, according to WPDE-TV. He also said that he loved the dishes that Irene Pressley delivered every day.

Seward listened attentively to Presley’s family as they spoke during the hearing and stood up when the judge asked him if he wished to speak. Seward then said that he “doesn’t want to cause any further confusion. I have nothing to say,” the TV station reported.

The co-defendant who had helped Seward look for the mail carrier was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Prosecutors said Jerome Terrell Davis, 31, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and possession with intent to distribute mar**uana.
