Florida Man Convicted Of Double Homicide Elbows His Lawyer In The Face Before Being Sentenced To Death

A Florida man convicted of double homicide decided to make things worse for himself by elbowing his own lawyer in the face inside the courtroom!

According to NBC News, Joseph Zieler was recently convicted of killing an 11-year-old girl and her babysitter back in 1990.

Ziegler appeared in court the other day to receive his sentencing and he decided to go out with a bang.. literally.

Video of the incident shows Zieler calling over attorney Kevin Shirley, who leans forward to listen to something Zieler was going to whisper to him, but instead Zieler flung his elbow at the side of Shirley’s head. Two bailiffs took him to the ground after the altercation.

Shirley said he was OK, telling the judge: “I used to box, I’ve taken a lot better shots than that one.” He told NBC News that he was not injured and did not know why his client attacked him.

“He had to know how the bailiffs would react,” Shirley said in an emailed statement Tuesday. “We had a very good working relationship. It was probably his last effort to put on public display and I was the only civilian that he was able to lure within arms reach.”

Zieler was sentenced to death hours after this incident.
