Lil Wayne was heavily criticized over his reaction on George Floyd’s death during a chat with Fat Joe on Instagram live. Lil Wayne said that he thinks we could all be blamed for what happened to George Floyd.

“I think when we see these situations, I think we also have to understand that we have to get very specific,” the veteran rapper explained at the time.

“And what I mean by that is we have to stop viewing it with such a broad view, meaning we have to stop placing the blame on the whole force and the whole everybody or a certain race or everybody with a badge,” Wayne added.

On Friday’s episode of Young Money Radio, Wayne clarified his words, he told Killer Mike that people have to understand how he was raised to get why he made the comments that he did.

“Mike, last week people misinterpreted my words. I respect the effort of the people to seek justice and what they doin’. I just knew it was time for more action than a tweet,” he began. “Also, my mama always told me.. I sat in the passenger seat getting picked up from school every day and dropped off.”

According to Bossip, Wayne detailed his stance on police brutality following the riots and protesting currently occurring across the country as a response to the heart-breaking death of George Floyd. As many Lil Wayne fans may already know, when he was 12-years-old he shot himself and he says his life was saved by Deputy Robert Hoobler, a white police office and that incident is the reason for his stance on the police.

“My life was saved when I was young. Shot myself. My life was saved by a white cop. Uncle Bob. So from, therefore, you have to understand the way I view police, period. There was a bunch of black cops that jumped over me by that door with that hole in my chest. He refused to,” Wayne explained.

“We have to stop placing the blame on the whole force and the whole everybody or a certain race or everybody with a badge.” However, Deputy Robert Hoobler was fired.
