Lil Nas X Responds To Critics Of His New Video: “Stay Mad”
Lil Nas X Sends Message To Critics Of His New Music Video For ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’
Lil Nas X has since been trending on Twitter after releasing a new single, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” together with a provocative, self-directed video with Tanu Muino.
Following backlash from the video, he took to Twitter to fire back at his critics. “I spent my entire teenage years hating myself because of the shit y’all preached would happen to me because i was gay.”
He continued, “So i hope u are mad, stay mad, feel the same anger you teach us to have towards ourselves.” And in a separate Tweet he wrote: “Ok i’m gonna admit it. i’m sorry i fucked up. i should have never taken my titties off.”

In the controversial visuals, LNX introduces us to the fantasy land of Montero, named after him (Montero Lamar Hill), where he is free to embody his sexuality as he pleases. In a scene, he can be seen giving a gay lap dance to Satan.
“Dear 14 year old Montero. I wrote a song with our name in it,” Lil Nas wrote in a note to himself on Instagram posted alongside the new project.
“It’s about a guy I met last summer. I know we promised to never come out publicly, I know we promised to never be ‘that’ type of gay person, I know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist.”
There are also reports that Lil Nas X is teaming up with MSCHF and Nike to launch his new “Satan Shoes.”
