Hip Hop Community Pays Tribute To DMX
Rappers Remember DMX As The Legend Passes Away At 50
Social Media has been filled with tributes to recently deceased legend, DMX. The rapper’s death was confirmed in an official statement from DMX’s family and the White Plains Hospital.
“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days,” the statement reads.
DMX began rapping in the early 1990s and released his debut album It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot in 1998, to both critical acclaim and commercial success, selling 251,000 copies within its first week of release.
He released his best-selling album, … And Then There Was X, in 1999, which included the hit single “Party Up (Up in Here)”. His 2003 singles “Where the Hood At?” and “X Gon’ Give It to Ya” were also commercially successful.
DMX was a collaborator to some artists in the industry, a constant threat on wax to those with a competitive mindset. For others, he was a formative influence.
Many in the hip-hop community have come out to pay homage to DMX’s memory. In his honor, we’ve made a collection of the tributes.
