6ix9ine Sued For Defamation By Tattoo Artist Over His Name
NYC Tattoo Artist Sues Tekashi 6ix9ine For Stealing His Name
Tekashi 6ix9ine has been hit with a defamation suit by a New York tattoo artist. According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Takashi Matsuba, a Japanese tattoo artist based in Brooklyn has filed a defamation suit against the controversial rapper.
He alleges 6ix9ine—legal name Daniel Hernandez—created a false impression that he is somehow associated with the plaintiff, whose first name is just one letter off from 6ix9ine’s rap moniker.
The suit points to Hulu’s 2021 true crime documentary 69: The Saga of Danny Hernandez. At one point in the film, Matsuba’s name is superimposed on the screen, as the director can be heard saying, “A Japanese tattoo artist named Takashi would inspire Danny’s new persona, Tekashi69.”
In another documentary, “Supervillain: The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine,” Tekashi said that Matsuba “did heroin to create.”
Matsuba denies the rumors. He says he has never taken heroin in his life. He says Tekashi has ruined his image.
“Because of the vulgarity of the imagery connected to plaintiff, and of the many tattoos on defendant Hernandez’s body, as shown in the film, acquaintances and patrons of plaintiff have already asked him whether he is connected with defendant Hernandez,” the court papers read per Page Six. “He is not.”
Matsuba is suing Tekashi and Showtime for unspecified damages. Matsuba is not suing Hulu.
