Netflix Transgender Employees Set To Walk Out In Protest Of Dave Chappelle Special
Transgender Employees At Netflix Plan Walk Out In Protest Of Dave Chappelle Special
Dave Chappelle is undoubtedly one of the greatest comedians of all time but his recent stand-up specials have been met with heavy criticism.
Transgender employees at Netflix are reportedly planning a company-wide walkout on October 20th to protest against Dave Chappelle’s Netflix special.
The Verge obtained a message disseminated by Netflix’s trans employee resource group which is accusing the streaming platform of failing to create inclusive, universally enjoyable content.
“Trans Lives Matter. Trans Rights Matter. And as an organization, Netflix has continually failed to show deep care in our mission to Entertain the World by repeatedly releasing content that harms the Trans community and continually failing to create content that represents and uplifts Trans content,” the ERG message reads. “We can and must do better!”
The comedian faced heavy criticism last week after his latest special was released. In the show, he said he was “team Terf” (trans-exclusionary radical feminist) like British author JK Rowling:
“They cancelled JK Rowling. My god,” Chappelle said during his set. “Effectually she said gender was a fact, the trans community got mad as s***, they started calling her a Terf… I’m Team Terf. I agree. I agree, man. Gender is a fact.”
Reacting on some people’s attempt to cancel him following his controversial show, he said: “If this is what being canceled is like, I love it,” the 48-year-old stated.
