Halle Bailey’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ Racks Up Over 543k Dislikes On YouTube & Still Counting
Halle Bailey is playing Ariel in the new live-action remake of the Disney movie, The Little Mermaid. When she got the role, Halle thought it would be the role that would launch her into superstardom.
Unfortunately, it appears fans of the Disney Show are not at all happy with the new movie she’s starring in. And if this holds up – it could be devastating for Halle’s career.
According to Youtube stats, as of last night, Halle’s performance has racked up more than 543,000 dislikes, compared to only 129K likes. That’s a very bad sign.
The dislikes were racking up so quickly that by this morning, Youtube began hiding the number of dislikes. If you look for the trailer now, Youtube still shows the number of likes, but the number of dislikes is now hidden from viewers.
It’s not clear exactly what the people were disliking. But we went through the comments on Youtube and have found that there are many people who seem to be upset that an African American actress was chosen to play Ariel, who was Caucasian in the original Disney animated movie.
Here are just a few comments that we managed to locate last night. We looked for the comments today, but Youtube appear stop have scrubbed them from the site.
“I don’t mean to be rude, but Ariel is white” “Now I’m super upset!” “I was really looking forward to this movie and now I’m bummed.” “Another SJW (social justice warrior) movie. FAIL.” “Why is Ariel Black WTF”
