R. Kelly Allegedly Injured In Prison, Might Avoid Going To Victim Restitution Hearing

R. Kelly is trying to avoid going to a victim restitution hearing on Sept. 28 and his lawyer alleges it’s because he was injured in prison.

According to documents obtained by AllHipHop, the singer’s legal team is requesting permission for the convicted pedophile to appear virtually.

“Undersigned counsel writes to respectfully request that Defendant Kelly be permitted to appear via zoom for the September 28th, 2022, restitution hearing,” attorney Ashley Cohen wrote in the docs.

“Mr. Kelly is currently housed at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Kelly has sustained an injury to his leg that makes traveling challenging and uncomfortable.”

Cohen added, “Furthermore, a significant amount of resources would have to be utilized to have Mr. Kelly flown in from Chicago to the Eastern District of New York for this hearing. For the foregoing reasons, Defendant respectfully requests that he be permitted to appear via zoom for the hearing. The government has no objection to this request.”

This week, Kelly was found guilty on child pornography in his New York trial. He has not been sentenced.

The jury convicted the 55-year-old on six out of 13 counts after a four-week case in his hometown of Chicago. He was acquitted of fixing a state trial on child pornography charges in 2008.
