Florida Rejects AP African-American Studies Course Claiming It Lacks Educational Value
The Florida Department of Education rejected the Advanced Placement African American Studies course proposed by the College Board.
According to The Daily Beast, the Florida Department of Education used governor DeSantis’ Stop W.O.K.E act to block the Advanced Placement African American Studies course.
The course was supposed to introduce high school students to African American studies and highlight teachings on literature, arts, political science, geography, and other subjects.

The College Board sent out a letter stating they used the Stop W.O.K.E Act to reject the course in the Florida Course Code Directory and Instructional Personnel Assignments.
In the past, Governor DeSantis said the Stop W.O.K.E. Act would provide parents a “private right of action” to sue if they think their children are being taught critical race theory.
This act also allows parents to pursue attorney fees if they win their lawsuit. Critical race theory is banned from K-12 public schools by the Florida Department of Education.
“As presented, the content of this course is inexplicably contrary to Florida law and significantly lacks educational value,” the Florida Department of Education wrote in the letter to the College Board.
