Nas Details How He Wasn’t A Great Father To His Firstborn Destiny Jones On ‘Runaway’

Rap legend Nas admits to his own fatherly mistakes on a new track titled “Runaway.”

According to Vibe, Producer Swizz Beats dropped “Hip Hip 50 Vol. 2” this Friday and the “Illmatic” rapper set the tone on the first song.

Nas expresses his absence as a father to his eldest, Destiny Jones, during her adolescence. The second verse begins with “All I imagine sometimes under sunshine or vacation, things I did in my hood, situations, oh well/ Probably was a bad father to my firstborn.”

Nas continued on rapping “Love her to death, but I ain’t been home since my first song/ Provided for her, but money can’t replace a father for her.”

Over the years, the Queensbridge native has been openly expressive about his relationship with his daughter. Jones was born just months after her father’s acclaimed album “Illmatic” was released.

He’s dedicated several works to Jones as an expression of love in a way he may best translate. Nas expressed later in the song his desire to fix the damage he caused from his actions.

He also touches on the challenges he faced with parenthood and watching his daughter grow into womanhood.
