Together, both have been pillars for the LGBTQ+ community by opening their church to the community to worship and attend safely as well as free of judgement.
Bishop Allen said in a statement with Today, “When people of color, Black people couldn’t find solace in white LGBTQ spaces, we created our own.”
He continued, “We created our own of everything, whether it was our own fraternities and sororities, our own institutions, our own churches.”
