The charges stem from a shooting reported about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home on Highway 35 North, Maj. Clinton Roberson said in a news release. Investigators found Wheatley dead at the location from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
Investigators gathered information at the scene that pointed to Pride as a suspect.
“During the course of the investigation, Chief Deputy Reginald Lantern was contacted by family members and notified that Pride wanted to surrender,” Roberson said in the release.
Pride turned himself into Lantern Wednesday afternoon and has since been charged with first-degree murder.
