LaTocha Scott Sings ‘Who Can I Run To’ In Church, Twitter Reacts
Xscape Singer LaTocha Scott Sings Side Chick Anthem ‘Who Can I Run To’ In Church
LaTocha Scott is currently trending on social media, after she sang what many consider to be an inappropriate song inside church yesterday.
The Xscape singer attended service ion Friday and asked the pastor if she could inspire the congregation by singing a song to the church.
When granted the opportunity, LaTocha sang one of Xscape’s most memorable songs, ‘Who Can I Run To’. It’s an interesting choice – given the lyrics.
I went to church looking for a word and instead I got LaTocha Scott singing who can I run to 🥴 pic.twitter.com/S7xHdYGylz

The lyrics tell the story of a woman torn about whether to enter a relationship with a man who “satisfies” her. But the lyrics suggest that the man – whom she’s hoping to love – belongs to someone else.
The song is seen these days as a popular “side chick anthem.” Well, LaTocha sang the song and she sounds great, and some in the church are really vibing with her.
But if you look carefully, you can also see some of the older women in the church seemingly uncomfortable with what the Xscape singer is singing about.
Folks online have since been reacting to it. “It’s all about who singing too. Yes the original song was talking about a man. But, if singing it to the Lord and asking who can I run too,” a Twitter user wrote.

Who can I run to was made by The Jones Girls, not the Clark Sisters. Who can I run to when I need love is a different context. Change the lyrics and reference GOD and it does become Gospel. Keeping the same lyrics when you have a Gospel album choosing a R&B song is not GOD like.

No. It was made in 1979 for The Jones Girls. Xscape covered the song. It was never a Gospel song nor intended to be. https://t.co/BUBn7zRgex
