Judge Orders R. Kelly’s Former Record Label To Use His Royalties To Pay Over $500K In Restitution To His Victims
A judge has ruled that R. Kelly’s music royalties from UMG must go to his sexual abuse victims.
According to Billboard, Robert Kelly has over $500K in royalties that is currently being held by UMG and a judge has ruled that the royalties must be released to the sexual abuse victims of Robert’s crimes for restitution and criminal fees.
However, UMG isn’t the only company that will have to give up the royalty money for Robert’s music to pay restitution to his victims.

It was also revealed that Sony could potentially do the same for several other cases against Robert due to them currently holding over $1.5M in royalties of his music.
One such case from Chicago, federal prosecutors say that Robert still owes over $42K in restitution and fines.
However, Robert’s lawyer spoke out about this and said, “We maintain that Mr. Kelly’s convictions and the restitution orders were erroneous and the Second Circuit will have the final word on it.”
He continued, “I can promise that when the Second Circuit reverses Mr. Kelly’s convictions, we will seek the return of every cent that has been wrongfully taken from him.”
