Taraji P. Henson Feels That Her Comments About Her Treatment In Hollywood Have Overshadowed ‘The Color Purple’
Taraji P. Henson is asking fans to focus back on her movie ‘The Color Purple’ rather than her comments about her treatment in Hollywood!
Throughout her press run for ‘The Color Purple’, Taraji openly expressed her feelings towards Hollywood and how they treat her and her fellow Black actresses.
She explained how she had to fire her entire team after they didn’t have anything lined up for her after playing ‘Cookie’ on Empire. On some occasions, Taraji became emotional when discussing how she had to fight for her worth.
She even talked about how she had to advocate for production to give them the right accommodations during filming.
Though these were things that Taraji was passionate about, she feels that now people are focusing too much on that and not the message of the film.
“I hope they can focus back onto this film, because right now, to me, it feels like what I said is now becoming louder than this beautiful film,” Taraji said to TODAY.com.
“And that’s not fair to me, or anybody in the film,” Taraji continues, “because the film deals with women who are oppressed — who live in an oppressed system. Men and women. And all the characters in that film except for the white people. So that movie is about healing. That movie is about sisterhood.”
