James Wright Speaks On The Trauma Of Chrisean Rock’s Assault

James Wright recently spoke on the aftermath of the incident with Chrisean Rock last year, where the rapper and reality star punched him in the face backstage at Tamar Braxton’s concert.

“I wasn’t arguing with anyone.. I wasn’t going back and forth with anyone.. none of that took place. When I got in there I was consoling the person.. I was like what happened and when they tell me what happened I was like oh,” James recounted on “The Jst Us” podcast.

“This is the part I want to talk about.. the processing part. I would wake up out of my sleep crying and not knowing why. So when I contacted this therapist, she said it’s trauma. Trauma would wake you up out of your sleep. Mentally I was thinking about it in my sleep. Cause I still don’t know. I don’t bother nobody, I don’t argue with nobody,” he added.

Back in January, reports surfaced that James Wright Chanel has sued Rock for assault, battery, and emotional distress according to TMZ. James, who is Tamar Braxton’s backup singer, says Rock assaulted him and used a homophobic slur towards him.

Court documents state that Rock struck Chanel backstage at a concert in November 2023 that resulted him in having face lacerations and broken teeth.

According to James Wright, the incident occurred after he told Rock she was only supposed to join the stage for the twerk portion of the show. At the time, the rapper was not in the properly designated area. After that, Rock allegedly hit Chanel multiple times with her hand while wearing “large champion-style rings.”

Following the incident, Chanel went to the hospital and consulted with a dentist and plastic surgeon. Along with assault, battery, and emotional distress, Chanel is also seeking recompense for his medical bills and other damages.
