Jimmy Kimmel And Regina King Tear Up In First Interview Together Since The Passing Of Her Son

Jimmy Kimmel gets choked up with Regina King during the actress’s first appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live since the passing of her son more than two years ago.

Regina appeared on Thursday’s episode to promote her new film Shirley and was welcomed by Kimmel, “It’s very good to see you. How are you doing right now?” Jimmy asked.

“Right now, I’m good,” the 53-year-old actress responded with a smile. “Good, I’m glad to hear that,” said the 56-year-old host, getting choked up. “I know you’ve been through a lot the last year,” Jimmy said emotionally. “Yeah,” Regina replied and the leaned over to take Kimmel’s hand, gave him another smile and said, “It’s good to see you, Jimmy.”

Following a brief emotional silence, Jimmy joked, “Did you see William Shatner backstage?” causing his guest and the audience to laugh and shrug off the emotions.

The video has since gone viral on social media, garnering emotional reactions from many. “I love the humanity in this clip… need more,” someone commented. “When your friends choke up before you, you know it’s real,” another person wrote. “I love Regina!!!! God please continue to wrap Your arms around her,” someone else penned.

“Being an Empath this happens all the time. im glad she is out in the world again,” a fourth user wrote. “Aww Jimmy, that made me tear up a lil bit I’m happy she’s doing ok,” a fifth person shared, and another added saying, “She is really one strong woman, grief is not easy getting over either.”

Regina King’s son Ian died by suicide in January 2022, shortly after his 26th birthday. Ian is the actress’s only child, whom she shared with record producer Ian Alexander Sr., her ex-husband.
