Shakira Says Her And Her Sons Felt "Emasculated" After Watching 'Barbie'
Shakira Says Her And Her Sons Felt “Emasculated” After Watching ‘Barbie’ Because They Felt The Ultra-Feminist Message Came At The Expense Of Men

Shakira is opening up about how her and her sons weren’t the biggest fans of the ‘Barbie’ movie due to its overbearing feminist message. While interviewing with Allure magazine, Shakira says her sons felt “emasculated” and she felt the same sentiment.

“My sons absolutely hated it. They felt that it was emasculating. And I agree, to a certain extent,” the iconic singer said.

“I’m raising two boys. I want ‘em to feel powerful too [while] respecting women. I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also protect and provide.”

She continued, “I believe in giving women all the tools and the trust that we can do it all without losing our essence, without losing our femininity. I think that men have a purpose in society and women have another purpose as well.”

“We complement each other, and that complement should not be lost,” Shakira added.

Fans don’t seem to agree with her statement, arguing that the movie was never meant for boys to begin with. “It’s a Barbie movie sis. Take them to see X-men or something,” someone commented. “Barbie??? A doll meant for girls?? Targeted to girls??? Girl shut up,” another person wrote.

“So take them to see sonic or the mario brothers movie like what are we talking about here,” someone else penned. “Taking your boys to see a Barbie movie, that centers women and being mad that it highlighted women in a positive light with equality & rights?” another user added.
