Rapper J Cole real name Jermaine Lamarr Cole also a producer, and record executive is one of the most prominent rappers in the industry whose songs are mostly a reflection of himself.
Cole was born on a military base in Germany and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina, he initially gained recognition as a rapper following the release of his debut mixtape, ‘The Come Up’ in early 2007.
While we await ‘The Fall Off‘ which is speculated to drop this year, Jermaine had an exclusive interview with Marshawn Lynch and Ryan Coogler in Harlem for the MLK Now Panel where he revealed that he got tired of rapping about his life.
“The time, it was after the ‘Forest Hill Drive’ album, at a time in my life where I was just tired of like, rapping about myself,” he explained.
“So much of my art was storytelling from my own perspective. I’d always give you branches of someone else’s perspective but so much of it was like my personal journey, my personal growth, my personal flaws, this, that and the third. And it was a time period when I was like that was not interesting to me.”
And after moving back to North Carolina from New York, he explained that he had a “whole different perspective of the landscape.”
