Teen Shoots Father After An Argument Over Bedtime

Teen Arrested For Shooting Father After An Argument Over Bedtime

An Ohio eighth-grader was arrested after he reportedly shot his father during an argument about his bedtime schedule.

Forest Park Police said the shooting took place last Wednesday when they received a 911 call from the 15-year-old suspect’s 17-year-old stepsister who said he shot their father during an argument over bedtime.

Investigators said the 45-year-old victim was shot once in the stomach but is expected to recover after receiving treatment at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

After the shooting, the teen walked to a nearby business and stole a car then drove 100 miles to Lexington, Kentucky where his mother lives as reported by KNOE. A SWAT team was contacted for backup after authorities in Lexington were alerted about the teen’s whereabouts. Investigators said the teen surrendered peacefully when officers arrived at his mother’s home and were taken into custody.

During a press conference, Forest Park Lt. Adam Pape called the teen a “flight risk” and said it would be better if he was locked up. “We believe him to be a substantial flight risk and would prefer that he remain locked up.”

During his arraignment on Monday, the teen’s oldest brother said his brother is not a bad kid but he needs to be placed in a better environment. His attorney and mother also asked for him to be released into his mother’s custody on Monday.

“We just want him to have a good environment around him because (he) is not a bad kid. He just may have had some issues that he was going through but (he) is not a bad kid at all,” he told Hamilton County Juvenile Court Magistrate Elizabeth Igoe. Police added that it was unclear how the teen obtained the gun.
