Arizona Man Charged After Mowing Down & Killing Bicyclist With His Truck

An Arizona man has recently been charged after mowing down and killing a bicyclist with his Chevrolet pickup truck.

The culprit has since been identified as 39 year old Fernando Ramos and his victim identified as 60 year old George Cooper, who died at the scene of the hit and run.

Officials at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office say the incident occurred on Saturday, May 21, before 6 a.m. near Jackrabbit Trail South and Beloat Road in Buckeye, which is the westernmost suburb in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

The Sheriff’s office received calls for a collision involving a car and a bicyclist. When police arrived, Ramos had already fled the area, leaving Cooper with no help.

Witnesses say they saw Ramos’ Chevy truck crash into the bicyclist, drag him along the road and then run over him, just before fleeing the scene.

Police say Cooper was biking in the northeastern lane of the road, and had a small trailer hitched onto him when he was struck by Ramos. When police arrived to the scene, Cooper was found dead on the road, with Ramos nowhere to be found.

Ramos has since been charged on suspicion of hit ad run with death or injury and manslaughter. According to police, Ramos was not driving impaired or under any influence, but say he was speeding at the time of the crash.
