Parents Gets Into A Brawl In North Hollywood Over Pride Book That Teachers Plan To Read To Students
Punches were thrown at an elementary school during a pride protest in North Hollywood. What was supposed to be a scheduled pride event ended up turning into a brawl.
The controversy began when Saticoy Elementary school announced that in honor of pride month, teachers would read students Mary Hoffman’s book “The Great Big Books Of Families” which includes a make-up of same-sex parents and biracial couples with children.
In the video, an exchange of words between one side of protestors who appeared to be pro-LGBTQ+ and the other side holding up signs that read “stop grooming our kids” turned physical and punches were thrown.

After authorities who were on the scene to “facilitate a peaceful and lawful protest” broke up the fight, many parents began expressing their views on the situation.
Some parents claimed the topic of discussion was inappropriate for young kids, and believed that supporters of the incident were sexualizing and grooming children for pedophiles.
Others argued that the children should be aware of these kinds of topics especially those with same sex parents.
With the Los Angeles Unified School District approving the school event and defending that it was intended to highlight diversity, the school continued the event and the book was read. Since then, a hate crime is being investigated regarding a burned pride flag that was discovered.
