A man accused of fatally stabbing someone during an argument has been charged with murder.
James Lee Trussell, 19, was arraigned on Friday, July 7, on the charge of open murder before Magistrate James Cameron in the 14A District Court. Trussell is accused of fatally stabbing someone on Tuesday, July 4.
Ypsilanti police have not released the name or age of the victim. Trussell and the victim were allegedly arguing over “something incredibly stupid,” said Patricia Reiser, an attorney with the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office, during the Friday arraignment hearing.

“Apparently the defendant thought the victim was looking at his girlfriend.”There is no indication that the stabbing was self-defense, Reiser said.
The stabbing took place in the 800 block of Green Road in Ypsilanti. The block is home to several apartment complexes, including Arbor One Apartments and The Park at River Woods, which sprawl in brown-and-white rows between grassy patches.
Police were called to the area at 11:58 p.m. Tuesday, July 4. When they arrived, officers said they found a man suffering from several stab wounds. The man died from his injuries on scene, police said.
This is the first homicide in the city in 2023, according to police. Rip to the victim.
