Inmates Escape Washington Jail During Coronavirus Panic
Inmates Escape Washington Jail During Coronavirus Chaos
There was a daring jail escape on Monday night, in the State of Washington. The inmates broke out of jail as corrections officers were distracted by the coronavirus.
Five inmates are still on the loose, and at least a dozen escaped from a county jail in Washington state on Monday night, officials said.
“ALERT! Several prisoners have escaped from the Yakima County Jail in Downtown Yakima,” said a Facebook post from the city of Yakima on Monday.
According to NYPost, those still missing include 31-year-old Fernando Gustavo Castenda-Sandoval, 28-year-old Hugo Alejandro Amezcue-Hernandez, 27-year-old Miguel Angel Chavez-Amezcua, 26-year-old Andrew Wolfley, 34-year-old Tyrone Adam Mulvaney and 27-year-old Neftali Serrano.
“If anyone has information on where we can find these 6 escapees, please call the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office at (509) 574-2500 and press 0 or 911,” authorities said.
The post added that residents in certain areas of the city should remain indoors and call police if they see any suspicious activity.
The inmates escaped by breaking open an exterior fire door using a table, authorities told media. Once they got outside the building, they jumped a fence and ran into the streets.
“Officers were able to capture 6 inmates and get them back into custody. 6 inmates were able to escape,” said a news release from the Yakima County Department of Corrections.
The inmates reportedly broke out, because they were afraid that they may contract the coronavirus in jail. Below are the inmates who escaped:
