Usher Responds To The Weeknd’s Claims He Stole His Style On ‘Climax’
Usher Responds To The Weeknd’s Accusations
Yesterday, The Weeknd made controversial claims against fellow R&B star Usher, accusing him of stealing his ‘House Of Balloons’ style style on “Climax“.
“House of Balloons’ literally changed the sound of pop music before my eyes,” the singer told Variety of his debut 2011 mixtape. “I heard ‘Climax,’ that Usher song, and was like, ‘Holy f*ck, that’s a Weeknd song.”
He continued, “It was very flattering, and I knew I was doing something right, but I also got angry. But the older I got, I realized it’s a good thing.” Variety said they asked Usher’s team for a response, but they did not reply.
Usher has also responded to the claims, taking to his Instagram story, he posted several videos of himself listening to different #ClimaxChallenge attempts — singing it himself.
The Weeknd later took to twitter to clear up his comments, accusing the media of blowing it out of proportion.
“Of course media blows things out of proportion and takes things out of context,” Weeknd tweeted. “Usher is a King and always an inspiration so it was flattering to hear what him and Diplo did on climax. XO.”
