Usher Blasted For ‘Fake’ Love Letter To Black Women

Usher is currently getting dragged across social media following his “performative” love letter to Black women. The R&B singer made the love letter in collaboration with Essence.

“Dear Black women, to come from a Black woman and to be loved by a Black woman and to now raise two Black women, has been the center and joy of my life, thank you,” Usher read out in the viral clip.

The “Standing Next To You” hitmaker added that Black women have “lifted him up when he needed it the most.” Essence shared the video on their social media pages and the reactions from netizens haven’t been so positive.

Netizens have issue with the fact that Usher is married to a White woman after ending marriages to two beautiful Black women he was previously married to. The vocalist is now with Jennifer Goicoechea.

Usher’s “letter” is causing quite a stir on social media. Black women are cooking him for going along with what many consider shameless pandering. “This is so performative … especially considering Usher wife is white. Like..” someone commented.

“Leave us alone, we’re not the faces of strength and labor. We’re not work mules who exist to “hold you down.” Stop praising us for our ability to endure and do something about that which requires so much endurance. Show us,” another person wrote.

“I’m no Usher Stan, but Usher dated nothing but Black women before his new wife, and married a Black woman before her. His new wife choice does not negate the message. Can we just accept his appreciation of Black women? He still loves Black women!” someone else argued.

Back in February, Usher revealed that it broke his heart that Chilli declined his marriage proposal. “I wanted to marry her. I proposed and she told me no. I went through a great deal of pain after that, not trusting women or wanting to open up.” He admitted, “I hurt her too,” but the situation “broke my heart.”
