Some of the counterfeit cards were shipped from Shenzen, China to New Orleans but agents apprehended the cards in Memphis, Tennessee between Aug, 4 and Aug. 10 as reported by NOLA.com. Although the cards looked very similar to the vaccination cards that were issued by the Centers for Disease Control, the fraudulent cards had several typos and the translated Spanish phrases are misspelled.
Several other shipments were also heading to New York, Alabama, South Carolina, New Jersey, and Tennessee.

As previously reported, there has been an increase in vaccination card sellers as several states are planning to issue mandates where the cards must be presented in public venues such as schools, government buildings, restaurants, and bars. The FBI said in a statement if anyone is caught using the fake cards will be sentenced to serve at least five years in prison since using a fake version of a government seal is considered a federal offense.
