Ohio Teacher Faces Backlash After Writing Social Media Post Claiming Slain Student “Was Not The Brightest”
Youngstown Teacher Faces Backlash For Writing An Insensitive Memorial Post About 10 Year Old Slain Student
A Youngstown teacher is currently facing backlash on social media after she wrote an insensitive memorial post about a 10-year-old female student who was killed during a deadly shooting.
The unidentified teacher went on social media to express her condolences for Persayus Davis-May, a Youngstown City School student who was tragically murdered in her home on Wednesday.
It reads, “I am so angry and sad at the same time. This baby was not my brightest but she was our caregiver and protector. She struggled with all academics but could count money like it was her job.”
After the post went viral, several parents including Davis-May’s godmother are asking for the teacher to be fired from the school.
“Posting that she’s praying or asking the community to pray for us, we appreciate that. But then she led into how she fell asleep in class and she wasn’t a bright student,” Tayana Smith told WKBN.
“That was just very disheartening, especially at a time when we are still grieving the loss,” Tayana Smith added.
However, Youngstown City Schools said in a statement that the social media post doesn’t match their policy in regards to disciplinary action and said they discourage staff from participating in similar behavior.
