Three Newborns Hospitalized After Parents Uses Alkaline-Based Formula To Feed Them
Three infants are hospitalized after they were fed with alkaline-based formulas which caused severe deficiencies in their development.
A new report launched by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed the babies were diagnosed with rickets and other brain injuries after they were fed with the alkaline formula.
The ingredients in these formulas contained sea moss, hemp seeds, coconut water, and alkaline water but lacked vitamin D and calcium to fully support the infants’ growth.
“Each of these infants had been fed a homemade formula, reported by their parents as the alkaline diet. Recipes associated with this diet, several variations of which can be found online, show it lacks essential vitamins and micronutrients such as vitamin D, calcium, and iodine. CDC and the Food and Drug Administration have issued warnings about the use of homemade infant formula.”
One of the babies needed to be resuscitated and suffered brain damage due to a lack of oxygen and all three suffered from bone deformities due to the lack of vitamin D.
The report says the cases took place in January 2021 and August 2020 and it encourages parents to breastfeed their babies or use commercially made formulas as the alkaline formulas are a dangerous substitute.
“Human breast milk and commercial infant formula contain vitamins and micronutrients essential for growth and development.”
“Infants fed an alternative diet can develop severe deficiencies and experience long-lasting developmental consequences.“
