Rutgers Student Claims He’s Being Stopped From Taking Virtual Classes Because He’s Not Vaccinated

A student at Rutgers university claims he is being banned from taking online virtual classes because he didn’t get the jab.

Logan Hollar was transferred to Rutgers University in 2020, and during his junior year, he took virtual classes from his home in Sussex County, 70 miles away from campus. However, when it came to his senior, the psychology major decided to sign up for all virtual classes, but it wasn’t as easy.

“I’m not in an at-risk age group. I’m healthy and I work out. I don’t find COVID to be scary,” said Hollar. “If someone wants to be vaccinated, that’s fine with me, but I don’t think they should be pushed.” Rutgers mandated vaccines for all returning faculty and staff to campus, but Hollar didn’t think that applied to at-home learning.

“Students enrolled in fully remote online degree programs and individuals … education programs will not be required to be vaccinated,” says Rutgers’ website.

Hollar told NJ.com that he tried to pay his tuition on August 27, but was locked out of his Rutgers email and related accounts. He apparently is not a part of the online programs that do not require the vaccine, and he has not been able to attend classes.

“I believe in science, I believe in vaccines, but I am highly confident that COVID-19 and variants do not travel through computer monitors by taking online classes,” said Hollar’s stepdad.

In response, Rutgers rep Dory Devlin says that “registering for classes that are fully remote is not the same as being enrolled in a fully online degree-granting program.”
