A Texas high school principal has decided to remove all doors from bathroom stalls in order to prevent students to participate in “drug use” and other activities.

Christine Steele Hantgin, principal of Travis Early College High School in Austin, sent a letter home to parents regarding the new bathroom policy and explained why she made the decision to have the doors removed.

According to FOX News, Hantgin recalled that she wished she made a better decision on communicating more effectively with parents. In the letter, it claims there have been several behavioral events and violations that have taken place in the bathrooms.

“Ninety percent of our drug offenses this year have taken place in the restrooms. I believe part of creating a safe environment for students involves being proactive and supporting them to make better decisions. We have had no incidents in the restrooms since the removal of the doors,” the letter reads.

“My number one priority is safety. Removing the doors is one of many strategies we are planning or implementing to keep our campus a safe learning environment. We had great success with the start of our tardy policy this week,”  the letter continues.

Steele added that the number of behaviors in the bathroom has decreased since the removal of stall doors.

“Tardies decreased dramatically and students benefited from more instructional time in their classrooms. If tardies continue to decrease, we will be adding ten minutes to Lunch on Friday as a celebration.”
