16 Year Old Arrested & Charged For Shooting Mother Over Meth

A 16-year-old girl has been arrested and charged with felony attempted murder after she admitted to shooting her mom when the two got into a dispute over meth, officials say.

The incident occurred on Sunday in Morcom Township, west of Cook, Minnesota, per the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect’s mother, 40-year-old Stephanie Straw, was headed to the hospital when officials received a call from the woman’s boyfriend claiming she was shot in the back by her daughter, who hasn’t been identified.

KBJR reports that officials discovered the teen’s car in a ditch two miles from where the shooting occurred, while three people were in another vehicle that was nearby. Two people were released and the third person was recognized as Straw’s daughter. The unidentified teen eventually confessed to shooting her mother.

The teen’s mother told officials that she heard a loud sound while she was in bed, then a “bang” sound as it felt like her “back exploded.” Shortly after, she recognized that she was shot. The mother noted that before the encounter, her daughter asked for her methamphetamine back, also known as meth if you’re unaware.

After being shot, Straw admitted to giving her daughter the meth back. She then called her boyfriend for aid.

The teen’s case is in juvenile court, and luckily Straw is in stable condition.
