Iranian Man Seen Parading With 17-year-old Wife’s Head After Killing Her

Shocking video has surfaced online of an Iranian man parading around with his wife’s head after he tied her up and beheaded her the Iranian city of Ahvaz.

The victim, Mona Heydari was just 17 years old and had a 3-year-old son. She was forced to marry her murderer, who was also her cousin, Sajjad Heydari when she was just 12 years old.

Mona suffered constant abuse, but she has no way out. Even after escaping to Turkey, she returned as she couldn’t handle being alone in a foreign country.

According to RFERL, Mona was brutally murdered  a few days after she came back to Iran after her family promised that she would be safe. Her husband and his brother allegedly tied her hands up and cut off her head.

The killing has been labeled an honor killing and there is no real punishment for the crime.

U.S.-based sociologist Hossein Ghazian spoke to RFE/RL’s Radio Farda about how women in areas of the Middle East have minimal rights.

“Men own the mind and bodies of women. They draw a line and consider it a societal duty to protect their honor,” Ghazian said. “If they fail, they believe they have to prove their honor, and [often] do so by by killing the women whose bodies have been violated.”
