New York Times Contributor And Video Journalist Brent Renaud Shot Dead In Ukraine
New York Times video journalist Brent Renaud,51, was fatally shot when Russian soldiers open fire at a vehicle near the Romanivsky Bridge in Irpin.
The award-winning journalist’s death was confirmed by Kyiv Chief of Police Andrey Nebitov on Facebook.
“A 51-year-old world-renowned media correspondent was shot in Irpen today. Another journalist is injured. Now they are trying to remove the victim from the war zone. Of course, the profession of a journalist is a risk, but U.S. citizen Brent Renaud paid his life for trying to highlight the aggressor’s ingenuity, cruelty, and ruthlessness.” the statement reads.

PBS Correspondent Simon Ostrovsky wrote on Twitter that Renaud was working on a global film project about refugees before his death.
A spokesperson for the New York Times said in a statement that Renaud was not on assignment and their press pass was old after the document and his press pass were posted on social media. A photo of his body after the shooting was also posted online.
“Early reports that he worked for Times circulated because he was wearing a Times press badge that had been issued for an assignment many years ago,”
The journalist has won several awards alongside his brother, Craig, for their films covering the most impactful events that have occurred around the world.
