‘We Don’t Go Off First Week Numbers’ – Meek Mill Speaks On Billboard Charts

Of course, the Billboard Charts and first week sales have been the yardstick to measure the success of an album, EP or single for a while now, but it appears Meek Mill has a problem with that.

Taking to Twitter, the Philadelphia rapper expressed his dissatisfaction in using first week sales to measure the success of a project.

The “Expensive Pain” rapper also called out artists who have been dropping on Fridays to get the numbers counting early in order to snag a spot on the Billboard Charts. “They crashing the rap game out …. that everybody drop on Friday bs …. Wtf is that … why would you want to sell your product on the same day as the competition… for a billboard look? lol what does that do for the artist?” Meek tweeted.

“We don’t go off first week numbers ….Labels run that shit … and most of the numbers be fake … you can clearly see all the artist that’s killing shit! Focus on your brand and impact,” he added.

Meek Mill dropped his ‘Expensive Pain’ album last year which went on to debut at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album is said to have moved 95,000 equivalent album units, a drastic contrast to Championships’ 229,000 units.

“Even before my album just came out. They say it sold 90,000, I don’t know if they said that’s good or bad, but if we walk outside right now, you gon’ hear that sh*t booming from Maine to Spain,” he told Complex at the time.

When he was asked if he cares about where he debuts on the Billboard charts, he made it clear that securing top spots are the least of his worries. “Me, I’d rather take me off Billboard,” said Meek.
