Carjacker Dies After Assaulting Elderly Woman And Stealing Her Vehicle

A carjacker died in a fatal crash after brutally assaulting an elderly woman and stealing her vehicle in San Antonio, Texas last week.

72-year-old Shirlene Hernandez stopped at a local gas station last Tuesday to purchase a soda from a local gas station when a thief grabbed her car keys and started attacking her.

According to police, the man punched Hernandez several times in the face. Three men tried to help the great-grandmother from any further attacks and tried to restrain the man but he fled the scene in Hernandez’s vehicle.

However, his crime was cut short after authorities found him dead in the now-totaled stolen car on a nearby highway. Hernandez said she was sad when she learned about the man’s death.

“There’s a lot of people who would say what goes around comes around karma. I did not think that; the only thing I got (was) really sad because he had died. Now granted, he had hurt me, but the Lord saw fit to take him out of his misery. I just hope that if this situation happens to anybody else, that somebody will step forward, leap forward, run forward, whatever and help the person that it’s happening to,

She is expected to fully recover from her injuries but she will be unable to travel to work due to the recent incident.

A GoFundMe account was launched by her granddaughter, Helen Garcia, who set up an initial goal of $5,000. However, the donations have reached almost $28,000.
