17-Year-Old Baltimore Boy Convicted Of Rape & Murder Of 83-Year-Old Neighbor

A Baltimore teen has been convicted of the rape and murder of his 83-year-old neighbor when he was just 14 years old.

Tyrone Harvin, now 17, was found guilty of raping and murdering his neighbor Dorothy Mae Neil in her West Baltimore home on August 28, 2018, while he was supposed to be helping her around the house with chores.

Harvin was also found guilty of carrying a dangerous weapon, he now faces a maximum sentence of life plus three years. ‘There really is no winner in this case,’ Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby said after the guilty verdict. ‘Coming to terms with our youngest homicide defendant to date, raping and killing one of our seniors is devastating. It means the loss of two lives.’

Dorothy was reported missing by her neighbors after

they had not seen her for a few days. Police officers arrived at her apartment and noticed dry blood on the outside of her door. They then found Dorothy unresponsive, beaten, nude, and face up on the floor of her living room. She was surrounded by bloody clothing and a broken lamp with blood on it. Reports reveal that at the crime scene, officers found several condom wrappers, used condoms, and blood on the floor in the living room where Dorothy was found.

DNA testing linked Harvin to the inside of a condom and the middle of the lamp which also had the victim’s blood on it. A motive for the murder was not provided but police had previously said Harvin had been helping Dorothy with chores before her death.

Sentencing for Harvin is scheduled for January 3, 2023.
