South African Boxer Simiso Buthelezi Dies From Brain Bleed That Caused Him To Punch Invisible Opponent
South African boxer Simiso Buthelezi has passed away just days after being disorientated inside the ring and attempting to punch an invisible opponent.
Seconds after the 10th round of the WBF African lightweight title fight began against Siphesihle Mntungwa, Simiso turned towards the empty far corner and began punching air.
Siphesihle was confused and the referee quickly called it. Simiso was rushed to a local hospital and put into an induced coma. He passed away Wednesday after suffering a bleed on the brain.

The two fighters boxed it out for the WBF African lightweight title; however, things took a turn in the tenth round.
In the video, Buthelezi’s opponent slips through the ropes, and shortly after, Buthelezi is seen turning towards the referee as he swings right after the referee moves and gets out of the way.
Buthelezi continues to swing; however, once the referee noticed something was off, the fight was immediately stopped. Buthelezi was rushed to the hospital and news has been revealed that the boxer is in a coma.
Before he was announced dead, his trainer, Bheki Mngomezulu, noted, “There’s no change in his condition, he’s in a coma, he’s not talking, moving, or doing anything right now. The doctors say there could be a blood clot on the brain due to a blow to the head.”
