Several Texans Die From Heat Exhaustion After Governor Bans Water Breaks

It might be time to get out of Texas! According to the Associated Press, 11 people between the ages of 60 and 80 have died of heat-related illness in Webb County.

This news coming shortly after Governor Greg Abbot signed a law that forbid workers from having water breaks.

Per the report, “A teen and stepfather died while hiking in extreme heat at Big Bend National Park, per a National Park Service release.

According to the Texas Tribune, at least nine inmates, including two men in their 30s, died in Texas prisons that lack air conditioning.”

While these deaths were not technically confirmed as a result of not having a water break, it’s a clear indication of why these breaks are needed.

Scientists blame the increased heat on climate change. They project that Texas summers will get increasingly hot if climate change continues, putting the public’s health at risk.

“Banning water breaks should be illegal wtf,” someone commented. “Banning water breaks is outrageous,” another person wrote.
