A Rare Pink Dolphin Spotted Off The Coast Of Louisiana
A fisherman is still reeling from the sight of a rare pink dolphin off Louisiana last week.
Thurman Gustin, of Houston, Texas, was fishing with his girlfriend in the waters off Hackberry on July 12 when he spotted a flash of pink.
“Like I just saw Bigfoot. I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a pink dolphin,” he said of the creature, which he captured surfacing briefly in a video he shared on Facebook.

Gustin also claims that he saw a second, smaller pink dolphin, though he did manage to catch that one in the footage.
After going through a difficult time, the sight of the dolphins held personal significance for him, Gustin told the SunHerald.
“It’s like a sign going, ‘OK, you’re doing great.’ I’m just happy that happy’s going around,” he said. Although they normally look dark gray, blue, or even black, dolphins can appear pink when they lack melanin.
Pinky, a marine mammal biologist told the outlet, likely has albinism. Amazon river dolphins are pink, but they are limited to freshwater in South America.
