Bill de Blasio And Wife Chirlane McCray Separate
Former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife, Chirlane McCray, have announced they are separating.
The couple, who announced the news in an interview, also shared they are still living together and will not get a divorce even though they will date other people.
De Blasio shared that he had some reservations about marrying McCray because she had already come out as gay.

“For the guy who took the chance on a woman who was an out lesbian and wrote an article called ‘I Am a Lesbian,’” de Blasio told The Times, “there was a part of me that would at times say, ‘Hmmm, is this like a time bomb ticking? Is this something that you’re going to regret later on?’ So I always lived with that stuff.”
De Blasio, who is white, and McCray, who is Black, met in the early 1990s while working for New York City’s first Black mayor, Democrat David Dinkins.
De Blasio and McCray, a writer and activist, married in 1994. They share two children — daughter Chiara, 28, and son Dante, 25 — and are planning to still continue to live together in the townhouse where they raised their kids, located in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York.
McCray told the Times that she and her husband first broached the subject of a separation during an evening after binge-watching TV, when de Blasio asked her why she isn’t “lovey-dovey anymore.”
