President Museveni offered his condolences for the unfortunate role that the country previously played in selling its own people into slavery hundreds of years ago.
Museveni says though this cannot be erased, he hopes with the apology that descendants of enslaved Africans can forgive them and try to move forward in the right direction.
“We come in humility and brokenness to repent for the sins of leaders in Africa. And in particular, the sin of selling our own brothers and sisters into slavery.”
The video of the speech has since gone viral on social media, garnering mixed reactions from folks online. “Everybody but America apologizing smh,” someone commented.
