Drug Dealer Irvin Cartagena Sentenced To 10 Years For Providing Michael K. Williams With Fentanyl Laced Heroin Which Led To His Death

The Brooklyn drug dealer who sold the fentanyl-laced heroin that killed “The Wire” actor Michael K. Williams was sentenced to 10 years in prison Friday.

Irvin Cartagena, 40, a k a “Green Eyes,” was captured in surveillance camera footage handing the drugs to Williams the day before the star was found dead in his luxury Williamsburg penthouse Sept. 6 2021, according to prosecutors.

“Michael K. Williams tragically lost his life after using the drugs sold to him by Cartagena. Although their product had already claimed one life, Cartagena and his co-conspirators continued to sell potentially lethal fentanyl-laced heroin,” the US Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York said in a statement.

Cartagena pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute heroin, fentanyl, and fentanyl analogue — another form of synthetic opioid — in April, the US Attorney’s office said. Manhattan federal Judge Ronnie Abrams handed down the prison sentence along with five years of supervised release.

Cartagena initially fled to Puerto Rico, where he was arrested February 2022.

He was part of a crew of four dealers who were charged over Williams’ death and had sold their illicit wares to customers on the streets of Williamsburg between at least August 2020 and February 2022. All four men have taken guilty pleas, including Carlos Macci, 71, who was sentenced to 2.5 years behind bars in July.

Macci received the lenient sentence July 25 after the co-creator of the “The Wire,” David Simon, asked Manhattan federal Judge Ronnie Abrams to show him mercy.
