Officer Pulls Over Black Family & Holds Them At Gunpoint After Misidentifying Their License Plates With Stolen Car

An Arkansas family visiting Dallas have been left traumatized after a female police officer mistakenly pulled them over upon misidentifying their license plates with a stolen car—the officer reportedly held them at gunpoint. According to documents obtained by WFAA, officer V. McQueen, reportedly entered the plates of the family’s black Dodge charger incorrectly.

McQueen claimed the car drew attention because it had out-of-state plates and Chargers were “high theft vehicles”. McQueen began tracking the family’s car as she then considered it a high risk traffic stop.

McQueen then reportedly pulled the car over where she already had her gun drawn, asking the driver to get out of the vehicle. Other officers reportedly pulled up to the scene as well. The driver at the time was a 28-year-old mother and wife. “What did I do?” The mother asked while crying.

“I’ve never been in trouble a day in my life. This is scaring the hell out of me.” The other three family members remaining in the car were her husband, son, and nephew. Both her son and nephew were only 12 and 13.

McQueen then forced the woman and her son out of the car, ordering them to walk towards the police car backwards with their hands in the air. The son was reportedly placed in handcuffs. After the woman and her husband began pleading and telling McQueen that they were only in town for a basketball tournament, McQueen then realized she had made a mistake.

She realized she had mixed their plates up with an Arizona plate. McQueen and the other officers on the scene began apologizing. One officer even began trying to comfort the husband.

Authorities addressed the incident in a press release. “We made a mistake,” Frisco Police Chief David Shilson said. “Our department will not hide from its mistakes. Instead, we will learn from them.” The family is seeking legal options.
