Man Who Survived Polio & Lived Inside A Coffin-Like Iron Lung For 70 Years Shares Life Story
A polio survivor by the name of Paul Alexander, 77, is making headlines after sharing his life story of living in an iron lung for more than 70 years. Despite his condition.
According to the Daily Mail, Alexander was just six years old when he was reportedly struck down by polio and was left paralysed from the neck down.
In order to breathe functionally, he was encased inside the machine and has relied on it since 1952. Alexander claims he stayed on the ventilator despite the evolution of technology to avoid having to get a hole surgically placed in his throat.

The ventilator seemingly resembles a metal coffin, and requires patients to lie down inside, with the device fastened tightly around their neck. But according to Alexander, this has not stopped him from living his best life y’all!
In an interview with The Guardian, Alexander revealed that he went on to become a trial lawyer, and represented clients in court in a three-piece suit and a modified wheelchair. The wheelchair held his paralysed body upright.
Alexander has also reportedly been on planes, lived alone, fallen in love, prayed in church, visited the ocean and has even found himself in a strip club y’all.
It doesn’t stop there, Alexander has even published his own memoir, titled ‘Three Minutes for a Dog: My Life in an Iron Lung’.
